Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA)

- Due to climate change there will be a decrease in actual availability of freshwater. This is due to the drying of lakes, rivers and the increasingly melting of glaciers.
- On the other hand, developing countries are thought to be withdrawing more and more water which reflects to more and more wastewater discharged into the environment.
- Those two aspects combined decrease the availability of water and may reflect in a decrease in the quality of human life, as well as the loss of those more fragile ecosystems which may be more affected by water scarcity and pollution.
- The map shows these projections by 2100. Developing countries like India will suffer. Moreover, some African countries, South America and Australia will also be negatively affected.
